Cap de Formentor literally means, the end of Formentor and is the name of the 20 kilometers long peninsula on the most northern tip of Mallorca. They often say that rough roads lead to greatness and with this place it literally means that. The road towards Cap de Formentor is characterized by huge rocks and cliffs that rise out of the water and is absolutely jaw dropping. Along the road there will be multiple points to stop and enjoy the amazing view. At the end you’ll find a beautiful lighthouse and with good weather conditions you can even see Menorca in the distance. So to make the picture complete, a trip to the lighthouse is a must!

♥ The restaurant in the lighthouse is not always open so take enough food and water with you on this trip.

Formentor is part of the Serra de Tramuntana, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is 90km long from Andratx to Formentor. This place is ideal to go to for a long and challenging bike rides and don’t forget the hiking trails. If your lucky you’ll meet a lot of new friends along the way too, the mountain goats.

In the summer of 2018 the government of Mallorca disallowed he acces for private cars to drive up to the lighthouse. This blogpost was written long before that so that’s why I drove there. Now you can only access it by walking, cycling or take a public shuttlebus from the Port of Pollenca. I totally get why they’ve closed it since it was a beautiful but chaotic ride which sometimes caused dangerous situations on the road. The drive is definitely worth is so make sure you take one of the other options stated above to visit. The narrow mountain roads await you! Also you can still reach the view point of Mirador des Colomer and playa de Formentor which is also amazing.
