5x free things to do in Amsterdam

Since I’ve just moved to Amsterdam, it’s about time we explore the city together and share all my tips about this wonderful city. Ofcourse, living in the big city or traveling towards one is already quite expensive. So it’s always nice to know some cool activities that won’t cost you a dime. So, if you want to know more then 5x free things to do in Amsterdam, continue reading.

1. Picknick

Picknick in one of the many parks this beautiful city has to offer. Take a bottle of wine, some cheeses and other snacks together with your girlfriends or go for a romantic picknick with your lover. Go people watching in the park, where people play sports, dance and lie in the sun in summer. Make sure to pack your Sit & Joy to the park or go sit alongside one of the many canals of the city. They are called ‘grachten’ in Dutch and will offer you the best views of the water. This ‘zitzak’ from Sit & Joy is perfect for two people to sit on and have a perfect and comfy day.

2. Visit a concert

Visit one of the many free concerts the city has to offer. All the concerts that are held in the city can be found here. Just check if it’s for free and enjoy a lovely concert from local and international artists.

3. Visit museums

Amsterdam has so much to offer when it comes to musea, from abstract to more classic and from high priced to free passes. There are also monthly changes in this, so make sure to check it regularly.

4. Walking or cycling-routes

Explore this wonderful city by bike or by foot. Grap a bike, or rent one and follow one of the many routes through Amsterdam. Through this way you can explore the city and the many picturesque neighborhoods such as ‘De Pijp and De Jordaan. Or take a free ferry, to Amsterdam-Noord and visit the Eye Museum or the NDSM-werf which is full of artist, creatives and bake your own bread at The Noorderlicht Cafe.

5. Free Festivals (can it get any better?)

Amsterdam is known by a lot of things, and their festivals must be on top of that list. Every year there are so many festivals and events organized it’s almost uncountable. The festival season begins at the beginning of April and ends around september. This means there is plenty to do and see all those months. A couple of festivals you can visit for free are: Koningsdag, Gay Pride, het Grachtenfestival and Amsterdam Light Festival.
